IPERSONNIA

IPERSONNIA
by Alberto Mascia
Country: Italy
Year: 2022
Duration: 100'

Italy, the near future. The old, overcrowded, and violent prisons are a thing of the past, now the prisoners serve their time in a state of deep sleep that renders them harmless. Hypersomnia is an economic and effective system because it has drastically reduced the number of repeat offenders. But not everything works the way it should: one day David Damiani, a prison psychologist, finds himself dealing with an aggressive prisoner whose personal file has been lost. A chain of events is suddenly sparked, forcing Davide to face up to the ghosts of his own past and to a conspiracy that will also involve Viola, the love of his life. He will discover that nothing is what it seems.

Declaration

film director

Ipersonnia is a psychological thriller set in a dystopian future. The movie's narrative structure, the outcome of a long and stratified process of writing, revolves around topics that have always fascinated me: the impossibility of going beyond the limits of one's own perceptive horizon, the illusory nature of the concept of reality, the silent yet pervasive impact on us of the more or less hidden conditioning by the society in which we live. Ipersonnia brings together various genres: thriller, noir, science fiction ('soft' science fiction, more conceptual than visual, far from the clean and hyper-technological aesthetics of mainstream sci-fi). And, as it accompanies the viewer on a dizzying voyage through the meanders of the protagonist's subconscious, it aims to offer the public a surprising and thrilling show in a territory that is still little explored in the panorama of Italian cinema today.”
