Declaration

film director

“We started with this idea around placebos and nocebos. We were just quite interested in that area, and we read a book called Sleep Paralysis: Night-mares, Nocebos, and the Mind-Body Connection by Shelley Adler, it’s sort of a medical anthropological book. We just started exploring that idea, and that led us to the Philippines. It was kind of strange process. I’ll try and do it quickly; it’s a long story. But we started with this idea, and then we started thinking about how placebos and nocebos are related to shamanism. In Ireland, we were pagan, pre-Christian Ireland was pagan, we had shamans and these powerful women in society called like, wise women, who were very connected with nature, and were able to cure people.”
