Hanna meets her lover in a secluded place, a mountain retreat. The present and the past intertwine in search of possible redemption, while the choices to be made, such as that of a child on the way, can wait no longer. In that place, together and isolated, shreds of their past life appear in the room and seem to dance with their present life. An enigmatic mirror of their lives lived with other people, in other ages. In those fragments we see missed appointments, broken hopes, pieces of life like a cell phone that rings and no one who answers and as in a puzzle, which slowly comes together, we perceive a thread that united their lives.

Maria Martinelli
(Reggio Emilia, Italy, 1958) began making shorts and documentaries about topics such as infanticide, war, immigration, and juvenile violence; her works have been presented and awarded at some of the most important international festivals. In 2000, she directed Gladiatori - Reportage sul cinema hard italiano (Gladiators: A Report on Italian Harcore Cinema) and in 2001 she made the feature length Amorestremo (The Dangerous Sex Date), presented at the Torino Film Festival. Between 2005 and 2006, she made the docufiction L’amore che fugge for the channel Foxlife. Her docufilms Io giuro - Appunti di donne soldato (2007) and Over the Rainbow (2009) were both broadcast by Raitre. Starting in 2016, she has been directing and producing the documentary miniseries L’artista è innocente/Save the Artist. In 2018, she made the documentary short about migration Dem Dikk Africa - Africa andata e ritorno, selected for the VPB Market Screenings of the Venice Film Festival. Redenzione is her second fiction feature film.
