Marco Belelli, aka Divino Otelma, is a well-known Italian philosopher and television personality. He has 6 degrees and owes his notoriety to his past career as a magician, chansonnier, politician. He is also the founder of the Theurgical Order of Elios and the Church of the Living, a cult with more than 20,000 followers, in which he has the role of a self-proclaimed God. Obstructed in the first stages of its production by the Covid-19 pandemic, the film unfolds over one long year of exchanges at distance between the director and the “Divine”, through Skype conversations in which the manifold topics relating to his multifaceted existence are treated. Significant figures who have been variously connected with his earthly life are also involved in this long journey of knowledge, contributing with their precious testimonies and blurring further our understanding of such a complex and layered figure.

Luca Ferri
Luca Ferri works with images and words. His movies partecipated to national and international film festivals. At Torino Film Festival he was selected in 2013, in Italiana.doc competition, with the documentary Habitat [Piavoli], codirected with Claudio Casazza, and in 2014 and 2015 in Onde section, with the following Abacuc and the short La società dei servizi, directed with Enrico Mazzi. In 2016 his short Colombi was selected at the Orizzonti section in Venice. Dulcinea has been part of Signs of Life section, in the last Locarno Film Festival. Pierino (2018) was selected at Filmmaker Mina, and then the documentary feature La casa dell'amore premiered at Berlinale Forum in 2020.

“I had originally planned to make a movie that was primarily shot in Genoa, where the Divino Otelma was born, grew up, and still lives today. But when the pandemic broke out, travel became impossible; I had to rethink the movie and I decided to adopt a completely different approach. The Divino Otelma and I kept in contact through weekly video calls and a few “self-perceptive” videos that Otelma recorded with his smartphone. What initially seemed like a cold and detached means soon transformed itself into a precious opportunity to dematerialize, thereby allowing Marco Amleto Belelli and/or the Divino Otelma to express himself in a flow of consciousness and awareness that revealed heart-wrenching melancholy and, at the same time, an idea of film that is more like a pathway than a vision.”
