Declaration
film director
“A Casa Amarela is a drama and, in its own way, also a road movie. It’s about people seeking a sense of belonging paradoxically by fleeing their homes. It is precisely by forgetting that they no longer belong anywhere that these characters maintain the illusion of having somewhere to return to. In other words, they seek to forget. It explores the depths of memory, identity, and the search for belonging, and how this is reflected in the intricate web of relationships that connect us to each other. The film employs vibrant, autumnal colors, aiming for a bittersweet sensation of liveliness and melancholy. In contrast, we use cold colors in the last night scene. The handheld camera technique is used throughout the film, being a powerful narrative tool to explore the themes of alienation, displacement, and the fragile hope that permeates the story.”
