Rosita is a steward at her city’s football club. In the stadium, she feels responsible and important. The ever-smiling Rosita breaks through her loneliness – she lives alone in a small flat in a social housing block – by being friendly and helpful to everyone. This gives her vitality and self-esteem. Rosita’s dream is to have a child, but when she does become pregnant, she decides to keep it a secret.

Wannes Destoop
(Waregem, Belgium, 1985) starts his film training at the School of Arts in Ghen in 2004. A couple of years later he graduates as a Master in the Audiovisual Arts. In 2011, his student film Badpakje 46 was awarded at the Cannes Film Festival and won many other awards. He then directed Billy the Bully, which took the prize for best short at the Amiens Film Festival. In 2020 he released his series Albatros which he co-conceived, cowrote and directed. In 2024 he directed his first feature film, Holy Rosita.

For years, her story kept running through my mind as I wondered to what extent a society has the right to decide on someone else’s happiness or what criteria are needed to be ‘pregnancy-worthy’ for a society?”
