David is a young Polish mathematician who subjected his whole life to the research on prime numbers, sacrificing his personal life to this work. He begins to gradually reevaluate his priorities after he meets his distant relative, Joachim, a successful man who has achieved practically everything professionally and decides to spend the last years of his life in his native Poland. The meeting of these two will unexpectedly influence the fate of both, leading to reflection on the mysterious ways of life, its passing and meaning.

Krzystof Zanussi
(Poland, 1939) is a film director, producer and scriptwriter. Director of many award-winning, internationally acclaimed films (awarded in Cannes, Venice, Locarno, Moscow, Chicago, Montreal, Berlin, Tokio): The Structure of Crystal (1968), Illumination (1973), Camouflage (1976), Constant Factor (1980), The Year of Quiet Sun (1984), Wherever You Are If You Are (1988), In Full Gallop (1996), Persona Non Grata (2004), Revisited (2009), Foreign Body (2014). Krzysztof Zanussi is also a theatre director staging productions all around the world. He has authored several books. Has honorary doctorate of many renowned universities and gives lectures all around the world. President of Tor Film Production, producer of the films by Krzysztof Kieślowski, Agnieszka Holland and many others. Professor at Silesian University in Katowice (Poland).

“I write observing people and there were some models that I have used in this film. Some real characters that I depicted. But the real message of the film is to say that success is not a real value. That the only value that in life is confirmed is love. And that is what both of my characters have to learn. Because the old one has achieved all one could achieve in the material world. He is healthy, he is rich, fabulously rich. He has power. But he did not love anybody. So he feels miserable in his critical day. And the young one maybe will learn from him and try to improve his egoistic character. And I think this is the message. The message also is that there is a spiritual dimension of life. Not only material. And that materialism is very deeply rooted in the 19th century. But it is not progressive anymore. It was progressive in the past, but it is not more. And that is what we have to implement in the arts. Show that other dimensions, not only the material ones, count.”
