SUPERMAN
by Richard Donner
Country: USA, UK, Canada
Year: 1978
Duration: 143'

To save his newborn son Kal-El from the imminent destruction of the planet Krypton, the elderly Jor-El (Brando) sends the baby to Earth, where Mr. and Mrs. Kent adopt the boy and call him Clark. The boy grows up in the town of Smallville, where he discovers he has extraordinary powers. After his real father finishes educating him in the Fortress of Solitude on the North Pole, Clark, who is now an adult (Reeve), moves to Metropolis, where he becomes a flying hero at the service of good, called Superman by one and all. One of the most controversial movies of the 1970s, and a long time in the making, Donner was in contrast with the production due to the movie’s overly-serious tone; at the time it was snubbed by the audiences, as well. But it launched Reeves’ career and had a great charismatic presence in the figure of Brando.
