Dumped by his girlfriend and still grieving, struggling comedian Mike has moved from New York to Los Angeles to try to make a career in the entertainment industry. Dragged by his friend Trent, also an aspiring actor and above all a womenizer, Mike goes from one party to another and from one bar to another, ruining things ever with his incurable melancholy for lost love. With yet another outburst of desperation, Mike decides to change and one night he meets Lorraine, who recently broke off her relationships too and moved to Los Angeles. When Lorraine recalls him, Mike cuts off his bound with the ex-girlfriend and decides to further things with her. Unlike Trent, stuck in the past, he will finally be able to start a new life. A critical and commercial hit, the film helped propel Favreau, Vaughn, Graham, and Livingston to stardom, while also launching Liman’s directing career as he won the award for Best New Filmmaker at the 1997 MTV Movie Awards.

Doug Liman
(New York, 1965) studied at Brown University and the University of Southern California, where in 1994 he made the comedy Student Body (Getting In). In 1996 he directed Swingers, written and starring Jon Favreau alongside Vince Vaughn, followed in 1999 by Go. In 2002 he directed the first film of Matt Demon’s Agent Jason Bourne saga, The Bourne Identity, and in 2005 the couple Angelina Jolie and Brad Pitt in the action movie Mr. & Mrs. Smith, as well as producing the TV series The O.C., of which he directed the pilot. After taking part in competition at Cannes with Fair Game, in 2014 he directed Tom Cruise in Edge of Tomorrow and in 2017 American Made.
