Declaration
film director
“The day I decided to bring a child to this world, I had no idea what a journey I was about to begin. Honestly, I never really questioned having kids – It just felt natural. […] So I stopped using contraception and.... Didn’t get pregnant. At first I casually ignored whether this was happening or not happening. But after a couple of years, I went to see a specialist, who very kindly informed me that I was, well, kind of infertile. […] This was the start of a long and grueling psychological and medical journey, filled with countless doctor visits, tests, experiments, couple arguments, injections at ridiculous hours, wild hormone swings, weight gain, surgery... Protocol 1, 2, 3, 4. Until finally, a fertility specialist admitted they didn’t really know what was going on, and they weren’t gods. […] That’s when the question first crossed my mind: why do I really want a child? What’s the point?! It was then that Stephen brought to me the script The Assessment. What if a society made couples take an absurd test before allowing them to have a child? At that point in my life, I felt a pretty deep connection to the story.”
