Declaration
film director
“In order to avoid neglect and abuse, women are frequently forced to disregard their own pain and find ways to solve their problems. In the film, while one woman must conceal her childbirth, the other woman must hide her lack of childbirth. Both Mira's difficult start in life and Serpil's inability to have a child are met with societal expectations, forcing them to live in secrecy and conformity. Through this film, I aimed to bring attention to the moral complexities in our lives where distinctions between right and wrong are hazy, and to uncover a universally relatable human condition.”
