Ward Kayyal
(Haifa, Palestine, 1996) has been working in the film industry for several years and completed his studies at Minshar College in 2022, majoring in directing and writing. He directed his first short film, Hamza: Chasing a Ghost Chasing Me, in 2022. Hamza had its world premiere at the Cairo International Film Festival and went on to screen at numerous festivals, winning awards at the Amman International Film Festival, the Notre Dame Arab Film Festival, and the Istanbul Film Festival. He recently directed his second short film, Fin, and is currently filming his third project, a feature documentary. At the same time, he is writing his first feature-length drama and developing a third short film.

We go on with our usual lives, as usual, we work, study, celebrate and go to plan parties, as if we neither see nor hear what is happening so close to us, from the slaughter of children and the starvation of people, to the killing of over 50,000 human beings. The colonial system dominates our minds, numbs us, and maintains calmness and submission. We are witnessing one of the most horrific genocidal wars in history, yet we behave as if it’s happening at a distance. We watch the corpses pile and the destruction spread, and still we carry on with our hollow, meaningless lives.”
