FORT APACHE THE BRONX

BRONX 41° DISTRETTO DI POLIZIA
by Daniel Petrie
Country: USA
Year: 1981
Duration: 125'

A solitary and alcoholic veteran of the NYPD, the police agent Murphy works in the Bronx. The arrival of a new captain, who prefers the borderline legal methods used by a number of agents, upsets the equilibrium of the neighborhood, bringing it to the brink of a revolt. Murphy, whose life was saved when he met the young nurse Isabella, first considers quitting to avoid participating in the climate of violence but then changes his mind and decides to report on his colleagues. An extraordinary performance by Newman, in one of his classic roles as a man who is defeated and yet, at the same time, proud. Another star directorial turn by Petrie, the expression of Hollywood realism which, at the time, was still influenced by New Hollywood.
