DON'T BOTHER TO KNOCK

LA TUA BOCCA BRUCIA
by Roy Ward Baker
Country: USA
Year: 1952
Duration: 76'

Abandoned by his fiancée (Ann Bancroft), an airline pilot (Richard Widmark) courts a babysitter who is staying with him at his hotel, but he soon realizes that the young woman is not as well-balanced as she appears and that it is above all the child in her care who is in danger. Part melodrama, part film noir, this is a claustrophobic, theatrically structured work, set entirely in a single location over the course of a long night. The film revealed Monroe’s dramatic acting abilities, which were still largely underestimated by critics at the time, and launched Bancroft’s career as a sensual nightclub singer.
