Biography
film director

Maurice Hermet
(France) gained his experience in filmmaking behind the scenes, working as an assistant director and technical consultant alongside filmmakers with very different sensibilities, including Mathieu Kassovitz, Patrice Leconte, Stéphane Brizé, Géraldine Nakache and Hervé Mimran, Audrey Dana and Thomas Gilou. Through this work, he developed an in-depth understanding of the filmmaking process, from the film set to storytelling, and came to believe that the most authentic stories are those we carry within us for a long time before turning them into films. In 2018, he made his directorial debut with the short film Le Trait, which won the Grand Prix at the Cognac Festival. In 2026, he made his first feature film, Instinct de famille.

Declaration
film director
“What is a family? The one we choose, the one we lose, the one we invent over the course of a chaotic night around a table? Instinct de famille grew out of an idea I had been nurturing for years: to shoot in real time, in a single location, with six characters, bringing different generations face to face with a controversial subject. I wanted to create a cinematic device that would not lie: a single take, because life knows no cuts. Real time, because what is said one evening remains said forever. The camera is not an instrument of control, but a witness. It accompanies the characters without ever abandoning them, as we do the people we love, even when it hurts. This is a cinema of instinct, in which we put ourselves at risk in order to find, deep within ourselves, the resources we need to create, imagine and set our emotions free.”
