Los Angeles. Jules Winnfield and Vincent Vega are two hitmen working for crime boss Marsellus Wallace, tasked with retrieving a mysterious briefcase. While Vincent takes Mia, Marsellus’s wife, out to dinner, boxer Butch Coolidge tries to get out of a fixed fight and is forced to flee the city the following day with his girlfriend, Fabienne. Realizing that he has forgotten a very important object, he returns home to retrieve it, only to find one of Marsellus’s henchmen there. Meanwhile, after Jules and Vincent have dealt with a rather serious problem, a pair of small-time criminals, Pumpkin and Honey Bunny, attempt to rob a diner… The characters’ stories unfold over the course of two days, intertwining and blending the narrative’s different temporal planes.

Biography

film director

Quentin Tarantino

(USA) is one of the world’s best-known film directors, always the screenwriter of his own films, as well as a novelist, essayist and playwright. In 2026, he made his West End debut in London with the swashbuckling comedy The Popinjay Cavalier. Passionate about cinema since childhood, he grew up frequenting movie theatres in the greater Los Angeles area. After working in a video rental store and writing several screenplays, including the one for Oliver Stone’s Natural Born Killers (1994), he made his directorial debut with Reservoir Dogs (1992), establishing himself with a postmodern style that blends classicism and irony, screwball comedy and gangster films, highbrow references and popular cinema. With Pulp Fiction (1994), he went on to win the Palme d’Or at Cannes and the Academy Award for Best Original Screenplay. Through his subsequent films, all major critical and commercial successes, he has established himself as one of the foremost contemporary auteurs, beloved by generations of cinephiles and consistently able to combine his passion for cinema with an incisive reflection on American history, society, and its forms of storytelling and representation.

Declaration

film director

“I met Tarantino at the Avignon Film Festival, where he was presenting Reservoir Dogs. It was one of his first trips to Europe, and there is a great deal in Pulp Fiction (particularly in my character, Fabienne) that reflects his first impressions of Europe, the Parisian girls he met, and so on. There is something perhaps enigmatic about this, because the character is almost a crystallization of what it means to be European, of Frenchness, and her characterization plays with the differences in values and lifestyles between Europe and the American Way of Life. Tarantino’s screenplays are written down to the last detail, and they are brilliantly written. I couldn’t change a thing. Everything was planned; there was no room for maneuver. The screenplay was enormous, almost a thousand pages long. After reading it, I thought, ‘Absolutely brilliant. I have to do it.’ His is a cinema in which anything is possible, and I love that idea.” (Maria de Medeiros)
