On a remote stretch of the Somali coast, where fishing is becoming less and less profitable, local communities are forced to hunt sharks to ensure their survival. Crushed by debt, exhaustion, and addiction, a man becomes obsessed with a legendary golden-skinned shark, the sale of which could free him from debt and suffering. Armed with an old spear and aboard a small wooden boat, he sets out to sea, suspended between reality and hallucination.

Declaration
film director
“Somalia was born from the urgency to inhabit cinematically a place where the sea is not a horizon, but a sentence, a call, a form of belonging. From the beginning, we wanted to approach this reality without exotic filters or narrative simplifications, searching for a form capable of holding together its material harshness and its visionary force.”
