THE FERTILIZER HOME

THE FERTILIZER HOME
by Hyo-jung Jeong
Country: South Korea
Year: 2026
Duration: 98'

In a rural South Korean village, a curse drives people to kill those they love most, convincing them that their loved ones are evil impostors. Mi-jo, the owner of a fertilizer factory and the mainstay of the local economy, has built her power on an image of self-sacrifice and devotion to her family and community. When a series of disturbing incidents spreads fear throughout the village, her twin sister Eun-jo, a fraudulent shaman, claims that only a ritual can break the curse and accuses Mi-jo of being its source. Reluctantly submitting to the ritual, Mi-jo discovers that the curse has not subsided and that her family members may kill Eun-jo. Her fear of losing the love and respect she has spent years striving to secure gradually eclipses her concern for the village and the factory.

Declaration

film director

“Most of our actions can be traced back to a simple principle – we do what we do just to live a little better. This film explores how, in the pursuit of what begins as modest desires, we can end up destroying ourselves – and how this darkness can illuminate the light of life.”
