For Rita, the daily routine of being a bank vice president, wife, and mother to two children nearing the empty nest stage has just collided with the resurgence of a deeply painful chapter in her family history. She tries various methods—all frustratingly temporary—to cope with her anxiety, until a mysterious new client, Ricki, walks into her bank. Along with making a substantial deposit, Ricki extends an even more intriguing offer: joining a group of women that very evening for a sunset ritual, in the hope of finding a new purpose in life. Much to her family's dismay, Rita immerses herself in an organization with plenty of skeletons in its closet, ultimately leaving it to help Ricki found an all-female rural commune.
