Francesco Pasinetti

Francesco Pasinetti (Venice, Italy, 1911 - Rome, Italy 1949) was the first Italian student who graduated in history of cinema. He was the author of the first history of cinema (Storia del cinema dalle origini ad oggi, 1939). Film critic and director, he debuted in 1934 with Il canale degli angeli; it was going to be his first of a series of documentaries dedicated to Venice (Gondola, I piccioni di Venezia and Venezia minore, all released in 1940). He directed many short films dedicated to figurative arts (Arte contemporanea, 1948), to the working world (Lumiei, 1947) and to social issues (Città bianca, 1942). He also wrote comedies for feature films by Amleto Palermi and Luigi Chiarini. He collaborated with the Venice Film Festival and in 1946 became the director of the Centro sperimentale di cinematografia.
