Salvatore Mereu

Salvatore Mereu (Dorgali, Nuoro, Italy, 1965), after studying at DAMS and the Centro sperimentale di cinematografia, directed a number of shorts and, in 2003, his first feature film, Ballo a tre passi, which received an award at the International Critics Week at the 60th Venice Film Festival, as well as a David di Donatello for best new director. His next movie, Sonetàula, participated in the Panorama section of the 2008 Berlinale and won three Golden Globes, including the Foreign Press Grand Prize. Tajabone (2010), which he made after a teaching project with students of two middle schools in Cagliari, was presented at the 67th Venice Film Festival, as was Bellas mariposas, which competed in the Orizzonti section in 2012. He founded the production company Viacolvento in 2006.
