Alta Marea is the story of five young, happygolucky, rebellious youths from Bologna, who after a night of partying find themselves on a spontaneous, aimless and merry trip through the bleak regions of the River Po. Their lighthearted world suddenly becomes a real threat as one of them is beaten by a security guard at a huge hypermodern discotheque, and they themselves are brutally blamed for the deed, they flee in a panic, into the foggy night. Encountering a roadblock they knock down a policeman in their haste to get away and find themselves firmly on the other side of the law. Escape, fear the breaking down of relationships and personalities and an inability to act clearly mark their traumatic and hopeless flight, which unintentionally finds its own fateful end.
