Fakirs, balladeers, tightrope walkers, and street artists, unusual characters, talk about customs, ideas, and politics of an Italy that has changed considerably over these last several years. Some of these persist in their choice of a "free" life despite its countless problems. But others have had to adapt, not without regrets, to the rules of a grim social circuit, putting on shows in discos or other places which they themselves term sleazy.

Elena de Varda
Elena de Varda (Milan, 1967) graduated in painting and graphic arts from the Krakow Academy. Currently she is studying directing at the School of Film Technology of the City of Milan.
