«Noise Reduction Pieces of a Cityaims to show the need to reduce noise now evident in the daily life of a large city through images "stolen" from reality. This has to do in every way with the general quality of life. The images are accompanied only by music just to emphasize the alienation of the situations we experience day after day. The experience of Noise Reduction showed that music and images can play off each other In the editing work, the music took precedence and, as much as possible, the images were cut strictly at the points where the music supplied the rhythmic breaks. I would like the end result to be taken as a graphicmusical experience in motion." (Nereo Rapetti)

Nereo Rapetti
Nereo Rapetti (Milano, 1948) has worked as a television director since 1971. He has made many films and video programs for all three Rai networks and for TSI. For Rai he made Dentro/fuori, a television film adapted from a story by Beppe Fenoglio, and twenty episodes of L'Italia delle regioni: alla scoperta del nostro passato (for the School-Education Department). For TSI he made various cultural documentaries, mostly on contemporary figures such as Italo Calvino, Goffredo Parise, Dario Fo, and Wanda Osiris. In 1973 he co-founded Milan's Teatro Officina. Since 1978, he has been a member of Albedo Cinematografica, for which he coordinated the 1981-83 "Theoretical-Practical Film Workshop", a two-year course training specialists in directing, editing, and cinematography conducted under the European Social Fund - Lombardy Region. Presently he is also a teacher and a coordinator of audiovisual services at the Civic School for pedagogical and social activity in Milan.
