GET LOW “It was a story that I felt a personal connection to based upon my own life experiences. I was moved by the idea of how profound loss early on in life can affect who we are and how we live out our lives. Dean Zanuck was the only one I had to convince I could direct this script and I think he understood right away that I had something personal and unique to offer both in the development of the story and the telling.”
For the past forty years, Felix Bush has lived as a hermit deep in the Tennessee woods. His clothes are tattered, his manner is rough and his face is hidden behind a massive white beard. He is the subject of disturbing legends and the townspeople avoid him like the plague. One day, Felix goes into town with a rifle in hand and says he wants to pay for his funeral. He wants to be present at his own funeral party so that anybody who ever heard a story about him can tell it and so that in the end he will be able to tell the real story of his life.
