Soldati’s Day

Monday Nov. 25th will take place the first Soldati’s Day, a special program to commemorate local writer, journalist, screenplayer and director Mario Soldati (1906-1999), 20 years after his death. A versatile and unstoppable figure, who, working with cinema, television and as a novelist and essayist, marked Twentieth century’s Italian culture.

In order to celebrate his work, in the Cinema Massimo’s hall named after him, 5 slots of screenings:

  • h. 1.00 pm – La provinciale (1953)
  • h. 3.00 pm, free entrance – Rai tv broadcast “Viaggio nella valle del Po alla ricerca dei cibi genuini” and “Pranzo di Natale: cibi genuini”, realized and hosted by Soldati, and “Omaggio a Soldati”, a Rai Movie production
  • h. 5.00 pm, free entrance – 2 episodes (Capriccio napoletano and Libro e libertà) from “Chi legge?”, tv broadcast created by Soldati with Cesare Zavattini, and Un’ora con Mario Soldati, a backwards gaze of the author on his career
  • h. 7.45 pm – Fuga in Francia (1948)
  • h. 10.15 pm – Malombra (1942).

The following day a seminar, organized by TFF and DAMS – Università degli studi di Torino, in cooperation with La Sapienza – Università di Roma, with the title Mario Soldati: cinema, letteratura e dintorni, curated by Emiliano Morreale and Mariapaola Pierini, speakers Steve Della Casa, Bruno Falcetto, Giuliana Galvagno, Emanuela Martini, Paolo Mereghetti, Franco Prono, Gabriele Rigola, Sergio Toffetti, Federica Villa. At Auditorium Quazza in Palazzo Nuovo – first basement- Via Sant’Ottavio 20, Torino – h. 9.00 am/1.00 pm.
