DAVID HOLZMAN'S DIARY

On July 14, 1967, young filmmaker David Holzman reveals his plans to make a film diary about his life. For the next 9 days Holzman records and examines his life and the events surrounding him, concentrating on his relationship with his girl friend, Penny, who is a model. Scenes of David's life and surroundings are interspersed with scenes of David discussing himself and the film process. David's relationship with Penny disintegrates, and he shows increased interest in sexual matters, even indulging in voyeuristic filming of Sandra, his name for a woman who lives across the street. On July 21, David has nothing to report; the project is not coming out as he intended. He rails against his equipment, then apologizes to it. The next day he announces there will be no filming; he must attend his uncle's funeral. Later that day, David announces from a telephone booth that his equipment has been stolen and the film is over. He regrets that he has learned nothing from his experience.
