Alessandro Piva

Alessandro Piva (Salerno, Italy, 1966) got his start in directing after gaining experience as a photographer, film editor and screenwriter. After completing his studies at the Centro sperimentale di cinematografia, he began making documentaries in Italy and abroad. He won two special mentions at the Premio Solinas and then dedicated himself to feature films, debuting with LaCapaGira, which was presented at the Berlin Film Festival in 2000 and won numerous prizes, including a David di Donatello. His second film, Mio cognato, which was presented at the Locarno Film Festival, won three nominations for Silver Ribbons in 2004. In 2007, he tried his hand at opera and staged Il cappello di paglia di Firenze by Nino Rota. In 2008, he directed the TV series La scelta di Laura. Henry is his third film.
