25 APRILE 1994

25 Aprile 1994 is a 30minute film made by a group of directors and camera-people moved by the desire to take part in the extraordinary day that was April 25, 1994. They came to Milan spontaneously, and there they made their equipment and talent available with the aim of documenting and witnessing that special event. The Audiovisual Archive of the Workers' Democratic Movement offered its collaboration and postproduction coordination. Radio Popolare gave its logistical support during the demonstration and leant all its recordings for the making of the film. The newspaper, Il Manifesto, took up the task of publication and distribution. lf that April 25 had been a beautiful sunny day, the demonstration may have lost something of its extraordinary vitality. The silent, steady rain paradoxicaily acted as a sounding box for all those voices that came from all over Italy. It is as if the worth of that day was reinforced in everyone, soaked like everyone else. A deep acknowledgement of the values of freedom and democracy expressed in the Liberation was evident under that deluge. Joy snaked about under those umbrellas, as well as the consciousness of ones own past together with the will and the pride to be present to make ones own mark on current events and our history. The film flows to the rhythm of the rain and reflects the vitality of that day. It is a collective work enriched by the commitment and contribution of all those who took part on all levels.
