Miles Butter lives with his girlfriend Sara. One night when they return home, they find that they have no electricity. While he is looking for the cause of the blackout, Miles discovers the corpse of Mr. Johnson, the landlord. He is shocked. He finds Mr. Johnson's bag, which contains a little pistol, at the scene of the crime, the empty second floor of a house. Shortly after, the beautiful and enigmatic Campbell Rourke, who fascinates Miles, comes up to the apartment. One morning Miles finds a letter addressed to Campbell and decides to open it. His relationship with Sara starts to get tense. Meanwhile, things at work seem to go out of kilter. Miles only outlet is his growing interest for Campbell. He keeps on taking letter after letter of hers. Very soon Campbell confronts Miles and Sara, because she has found out that her mail was being taken away. Campbell goes abroad for a certain time and Miles tries to rebuild his tie to Sara. Despite al] this, Miles's obsessions keep on acting up. One night he loses his temper with Sara, who breaks up with him briefly and then reconciles herself with him. Things seem to return to normality until the day when a letter arrives from Campbell who has had a baby named Ailsa. Miles is completely shaken up by this news, and looks for a radical flight from reality.

Paddy Breathnach

Paddy Breathnach works as a documentary director al RTE, the Irish national television network. He directed two short fiction films and his first feature film, Ailsa, won the Euskal Media New Directors Prize at the 1994 San Sebástian Festival.
