A man has lost his woman. This does not stop the world from turning, but it stops him Louis from living. He still has the need to talk to her one more time, to communicate his emotions, and so he decides to write to her. This letter is written to be transmitted, to be sent. For this reason the rest of the world is caught up in it. And for the rest of the world life goes on. Louis involves himself in everyday existence the lives of the mailman who sleeps without his girlfriend because she works at night, of the policemen, of a gardener, and of a driver. All are involved in the stream of life and force Louis to go forward. They constrain him to live. Thus Louis accepts the inadmissible: his woman companion took her own life and he was not aware of what was about to happen.

"A letter is no longer a banal thing. Since people write little, a letter is loaded with meaning and emotion both for the author and for the receiver. Correspondence is something exceptional. For Louis, this exception taken on dramatic consequences. He had not sent a letter to his wife for many years. And now it is too late. She has gone, but without leaving an address. For Louis it is of vital importance to get back what has mounted up from the past. He has to write." (Dominique Wittorski).<
