The Spencers are a classic dysfunctional family, ruled over by a domineering overbearing father. Charlo can be a charmer - when he wants to be. He is a petty thief, ripping off video trucks, stealing stereo equipment, but he never seems to have enough outlets for his energy. At home he turns into a bully. Paula, his longsuffering wife, hopes that things will change, but after a while she begins to grow tired of his philandering and violent rages. John Paul is their son, a young lad growing into a disruptive influence at school, who seems to be following in his father's footsteps. Finally there is Nicola, their teenaged daughter, working in a factory, whose emerging sexuality is noticed by her watchful father.
