Daniele, a young writer, and Alice, his woman companion, move to a very particular apartment building in the early 1900's. Daniele gradually finds out about the tradition-curse of the building: ever since the building was built, whenever a baby is born, a man - inexorably - dies. It is that disquieting figure - Angelo, the doorman and keeper of all the buildings secrets - who tells him this. From the instant when Daniele finds out that he is about to become a father he is more and more convinced that this blessed event will be the cause of his death. Strange and obsessive omens seem to confirm the inevitable finale.
