"I was very convinced of the cameras subjectivity, but now I believe more in the subjectivity of the direction. [The circular dolly shot in La cicatrice intérieure] is simply a dolly that stops at the point where had put all the crew's cameras and the equipment and on the line where there were the technicians who were shooting and the cameras that were doing the dolly shot themselves. The character that was playing was walking parallel to the dolly and all around it. And this allowed him to go away from one interlocutor and then come back to him making a complete turn without anyone noticing that the camera and I formed an axis. You get the impression that I was doing a sideways dolly shot, but really the dolly shot was around me myself. After this dolly shot, which was my last (and also my most complicated), I stopped being inventive in my images. At that time I was trying to be very creative in my images. Now I realize that it's better to worry about telling a story rather than to get involved with the camera. The camera is an accidental element."
