"When I say 'the birth of love', it is like saying 'the origin'. Is it possible to know the origin? When two people meet, it's by chance, by objective chance. We can understand, know, and know each other starting out from a certain point. But if we want to go back to the origin, to the cause of the meeting, to a distant origin, then we don't understand anything anymore. What is it? Predisposition, predestination, or a need to find someone else or rather, something that we carry in ourselves and that the other sees, but that other people do not see, or is it yet another reciprocity? We do not know anything about the origin of affinities. So I wanted to name the origin starting with the title of the film and to seek to go back as far as possible in order to name this origin, this reason for affinities, very well aware that I would never have found it. But this allows me to observe with these criteria some types of behavior, some ways of conversing that come under this phenomenon the phenomenon of the encounter of love." Philippe Garrel
Philippe Garrel was born in Boulogne-Billancourt in 1948. He made his first short, Les enfants désaccordés, in 1964 at the age of 16 and quickly stood out for his radical approach to the cinema.
