This video is inspired by the director's experience since 1991 sharing work, projects, and friendship with a group of women immigrants from nonEEC countries. The encounter first happened when she was commissioned by the Piedmont Region direct a documentary and when this then developed into their common desire to found a social cooperative, which became the first of its kind in Italy in 1992. The video project had two chief aims in mind. This first was to make part of this particular experience visible while drawing out especially the immigrant's problem of identity, of "feeling lost", and of the inevitable crisis of cultural equilibrium. The second aim was to offer to the immigrant friends the opportunity to present themselves in their specific contexts and to get people acquainted with the reality of Turinese immigration, also in its positive and purposeful aspects. The film that originated from this hovers between documentary and fiction. In it the protagonists impersonate themselves in a lively and ironic way, while the Italian actress becomes the look, the mirror and the speaker of thoughts and questions.

Adonella Marena
Adonella Marena (Ozegna, Turin, 1949) is a former history teacher. In the 1980's she was involved with the diffusion of women's cinema in the Gruppo Comunicazione Visiva. Since 1989 she has been making short- and medium-length films directly inspired by the reality of her most important experiences in social work. Her favorite themes are: women, immigration, the environment. Her film language tends towards experimentation in mixed genres, between fiction and documentaries. She has participated many times at the Festival Cinema Giovani and in 1994 won the Turin Space Competition, in 1996 in the Italian Competition, she received the Commissione Pari Oportunità prize and a special mention for the Cipputi prize.
