Halfway between an ethnological documentary and fiction, Aouré was Niger's first film. Its director, Mustapha Alassane, was encouraged to make the film by Jean Rouch, with whom he had worked as actor and assistant on productions of the Centre Franco-Nigérien of Niamey.
