16° TORINO FILM FESTIVAL
Retrospective - The Birth of The Cinema In Africa

À NOUS DEUX, FRANCE!

en garde, France!
by Desiré Ecaré
Country: Ivory Coast
Year: 1970
Duration: 60'

Some African women go to Paris to find husbands amongst the future ruling class studying in Europe and to prevent them marrying white women. But they will also end up becoming "Europeanized". Tarzan, an African married to a French woman, feels the attraction of his country through an African mistress. A sparkling analysis of a process of acculturation in the tones of a comedy.

"At the beginning of the shooting, the screenplay was only twelve pages long. I began to shoot, trusting in the inspiration of the moment and improvising on the set. And so many scenes came about by chance. I did a lot of work at the editing bench" (D. Ecaré).
