Abdallah, a farm hand, becomes sick and his wife Aziza decides to take his place at work. One day, Aziza tries to steal a potato from the field where she was working. She is discovered and raped by the land owner. Tormented by shame, she kills the newborn baby, but is overcome by remorse.
"What keeps me behind the camera is the desire to tell stories. When I read a story I like, be it Egyptian or foreign, I feel the desire to share it with the public. Some of my films are the result of commercial compromises, it is true, but it is also true that rarely have I directed films I hate" (Henry Barakat, in an interview with Samir Farid, publiched in "Cinema", April 1970).

Henry Barakat
Henry Barakat (Cairo, 1914 - 1997). Director, producer, screenwriter and editor, after receiving a law degree from the University of Cairo in 1938, he went to Paris to study cinema. He returned to Egypt at the beginning of the Second World War, and became director's, production, editing and screenwriting assistant for the two stars Aziza Amir and Asia. In 1996 he received the State Medal for artistic merit. He directed two short films for television.
