Lukas, who is 21, moves to a big city to live with his sister. Life seems like a lot of fun: parties, music and new friends. But at a certain point he starts to hear strange voices and everything changes. He is admitted to a psychiatric hospital and diagnosed as a schizophrenic. He ends up trying to commit suicide in his attempt to combat the illness. A group of young people save him and take him with them to Spain. Only when he sees the ocean does he discover the solution to his mental problem: white sound.

Hans Weingartner

Hans Weingartner was born in Austria in 1970. He studied cinema at the Academy of Media Arts in Cologne and has made several short films. Das weisse Rauschen is his first feature film and it has won the prestigious "Max Ophüls" prize.
