DIETRO LA LUCE

BEHIND THE LIGHT

Country: Italy
Year: 2001
Duration: 37'

This is the story of Gianluigi Manfredotti, born in1930 and projectionist since 1938. He is a man who never wants to stop working. He recalls his life, the films he projected, the technological evolution and the crisis in the country movie theaters that came along with the rise of private televisions.

"We met Gianluigi Manfredotti in 1995 in Locarno, where he was requested by all the directors because of his precision. We started to film him from that moment on and without a break until now. Dietro la luce is meant to be the pilot film in a series of documentaries that go over the steps in the evolution of cinema as told from the point of view from the craft people who have made its history, e.g. seamstresses, hairdressers, grips, and art designers" (Giorgio Bonecchi Borgazzi, Alberto Bondio, Manuela Taiana).
