Abbas, a postman, is transferred to a remote Egyptian village. Such is his boredom, that he begins to read other people's mail. In this way, he finds out about the love story between Giamila and Khalil. Giamila is pregnant and her father wants to kill her. But the letter that Khalil mailed in an attempt to save his beloved is involuntarily destroyed by Abbas, who tries in vain to save the young woman.

"I loved this short story written by Yahia Haqqi and I decided to turn it into a film despite the fact that it takes place in a completely different setting from my first film, Al mustahil (The Impossible). But after making the film, I understood what it was that pushed me to make it: the subconscious attempt to free myself of the passion I felt towards Du'au al karawan (The Call of the Nightingale), which takes place in the same setting. I hate it when a love story is thwarted by old and pitiless popular traditions. I had the good fortune to work with a great director of photography and wonderful actors" (Husein Kamal).
