Elisa, who is 27 years old, dreams of opening a hair salon in one of the most elegant neighborhoods of Montevideo. Fed up with her life, she leaves her two children with her mother and breaks up with her boyfriend, Garcia, who isn't very interested in getting married. Finding herself without a house, job or boyfriend, Elisa goes to stay in Donna Jacqueline's brothel, and almost without realizing it, becomes a prostitute. She falls in love with Placido, known as "El Cara", a businessman who travels between Spain and Uruguay. She decides to follow him to Europe and then return home once she has made enough money to open her salon and give her children a better life.

Beatriz Flores Silva
Beatriz Flores Silva was born in Montevideo in 1956. In 1982 she moved to Belgium and graduated from the Institut des Arts de Diffusion in 1989. After presenting various short films at numerous international festivals, she directed a very successful television series in Uruguay and became the director of the Film School of Montevideo. She began working on En la puta vida, her first full-length film, in 1998.
