ERRI DE LUCA. DOPO GENOVA (FILASTROCCHE SGANGHERATE)

ERRI DE LUCA. AFTER GENOA (UNHINGED DOGGEREL)

Country: Italy
Year: 2001
Duration: 12'

Right after the dramatic events of the Genoa anti-G8 demonstrations, the newspaper "Il Manifesto" ran the doggerel rhymes of the author, Erri De Luca between the end of July and August, 2001. These texts were used as simple intertexts, but they also suggested something more to me. They influenced my choice of images during the editing of the great amount of footage shot on those days in Genoa and of archival material.

"I was looking for a higher language, something different from the mass media language of television and newspaper hard new reports that had overwhelmed our eyes, hearts, and brains on those days after Genoa. When I read Erri De Luca's rhymes, I was touched and I found myself in a poetic language that was undoubtedly exceptional and the source of my meditation" (Armando Ceste).
