ESTRANEI ALLA MASSA

FAR FROM THE CROWD
by Vincenzo Marra
Country: Italy
Year: 2001
Duration: 88'

On a day in Naples among the thousands of ancient and modern faces of the city, we follow the experience of a group of seven "ultras", diehard fans of their soccer team, Napoli.

"I have seen television in-depth reports and films about Naples too many times. They are factional and often have an ax to grind. Therefore I had to narrate what I had inside and document it without any trickery. I forged such a strong bond with the young people who are the protagonists of this work of mine that we managed to make the television camera 'disappear.' I followed and filmed these splendid people for two weeks. Every last one of them is perfectly integrated into society. Although they did not renounce their ties with the past, they claimed that they wanted a change and that they wanted to be taken into a new dimension of life" (Vincenzo Marra).
