Imra'atun fi al tariq

Woman on the road
by Izzuddin Zul Fiqar
Country: Egypt
Year: 1958
Duration: 115'

Faraj has a gas station on the desert road between Cairo and Alexandria. His two sons, Saber and Hasanen (his favorite), who have two different mothers, live with him. Saber's mother has killed Hasanen's mother. Lawahedh, who is married to Hasanen, tries to seduce Saber, who rejects her. Faraj loses his sight because of a mistake of Hasanen's, but he accuses his other son. Lawahedh kills Hasanen and is then killed by Saber. Saber carries his brother's body in his arms while his blind father continues to call him.

"Every human being in this world has an instinctive side, and I express mine through Imra'atun fi al tariq. Usually people think that one plus one makes two: for me, sometimes it makes five, one hundred, a million, or zero" (Izzuddin Zul Fiqar).
