Thirteen Italian actors, many of whom were novices, are catapulted onto a Greek island in the grips of a lavish Hollywood production. The film in the works is Captain Corelli's Mandolin, directed by John Madden and starring Nicolas Cage, Penélope Cruz and John Hurt. Bit by bit, the young actors become more and more aware that they have been called on to play a choral role worthy of the purest stereotypes of Italians seen through the eyes of the English speakers.
"Italian Soldiers begins with a backstage scene of self celebration, continues with the tempo of a musical, and finishes with a narrative parabola that is almost filmic" (Francesco Cabras).
