In the courtyard of the women's prison in Gorée, the prisoners and guards are playing a famous Senegalese song on improvised percussion instruments. Karmen invites the female director of the prison to dance with her. In the deep of the night, the director goes to Karmen's cell. The next morning Karmen is released from prison. One month later, in Dakar, Karmen seduces the police lieutenant, Lamine Diop, and is arrested. She soon manages to escape and hides with Lamine at his mother's house.

Joseph Gaye Ramaka

Joseph Gaï Ramaka was born in 1952 in Saint Louis, Senegal. He studied visual anthropology and cinema in Paris and in 1990, he founded Les Ateliers de l'Arche, a company that is involved in cinematographic production and distribution in Senegal. In 1999 he opened a new, modern cinema house and has begun construction on the most important movie studio in Western Africa.
