A Hollywood troupe goes to Peru to make a film about Billy the Kid. But Kansas, the director, decides to abandon the project and stay in South America because he has fallen in love with Maria, a Peruvian girl. A local director is hired to take his place, but he plans to make a full-length movie about the Passion of Christ. His fellow countrymen become improvised actors and start identifying with their characters. In the meantime, a priest organizes a procession in the form of a liturgical drama.
