This film takes us along with the Cuban boxer, Teofilo Stevenson, the greatest amateur boxer of al times. From 1972 to 1980 he managed to win the heavy weight Olympic crown three times - a unique feat. This portrait captures him between the past and the present. There is his love for Cuba - his native land and its people. There are the memories of the revolution and the fight with Muhammed Alì that never took place.

"I made Ragazzi del Ghana, the travel journal of two adolescents who left Africa for Europe in search of a different kind of life. Afterwards, it struck me that the story of Teofilo was emblematic of a different kind of choice. Here there was no flight from one's native land but a declaration of love that was strong, decisive and sincere. Despite their differences, I'd like to see Ragazzi del Ghana and Un cuento de boxeo as a single documentary that tells the story of people competing in sports as a way of making fundamental choices that hold up the banner of the need for a better life" (Alessandro Angelini).
